816,124. Nuclear fuel elements. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Nov. 6, 1957 [Nov. 23, 1956], No. 35831/56. Class 39(4). In a nuclear reactor fuel element can cooling is effected by external longitudinal fins and mechanical support is provided by a helical fin. The longitudinal fins are integral with the can while the helical member is fitted over them loosely to permit unrestrictive longitudinal and radial expansion of the element. The complete unit may be supported either in a graphite sleeve or in a set of guide strips to which the helical fin is welded.
