829,436. Nuclear fuel elements. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Dec. 13, 1957 [Dec. 19, 1956], No. 38621/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(4). A nuclear reactor fuel element comprises a fuel rod which is held in association, along its length, within six separate fins by means of an enclosing metal can. The materials used are, fins, graphite ; can, beryllium or stainless steel. The fins are capable of supporting the fuel at high temperatures and the can, which protects the fins from the coolant and retains the fission products, is formed to fit closely over the fin outer surfaces.
