826,930. Nuclear fuel elements. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY April 8, 1948 [April 10, 1947], No. 9517/47. Class 39(4). In a nuclear reactor fuel element, the rod of fissile material is enclosed in a can having radial fins of aluminium or stainless steel. The can is supported by a graphite or beryllium oxide carriage and is slidable into a graphite-pit cooling channel. The carriage may be pedestal-shaped and supports the fuel element from underneath or may be tubular, surrounding the element and engaging the fins. Alternatively, Fig.4, the element 10a may be supported on a pedestal 12, within a surrounding tubular, square section, carriage 8a. Specification 771,111 [Group XL(c)], is referred to.
