889,758 Nuclear reactors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., and BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Jan. 28, 1959 [Jan. 31, 1958]. No. 3253/58. Class 39(4) A reactor pressure vessel 11 is mounted on a skirt 14 inside a biological shield, and contains a graphite core on a support grid 12 carried by an extension of the skirt. Lateral shocks are transmitted from the shield to the support grid through guides 20, bearing pads 19 and 17 mounted outside and inside pockets formed in the pressure vessel, and keys 15, while radial expansion is permitted by sliding at the bearing pads.
