889,042. Reactors. CAUTIUS, W. Feb. 25, 1959 [March 5, 1958], No. 6595/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(4) Radio-active gases which leak through the pressure vessel of a gas cooled nuclear reactor are collected in an enclosure which surrounds the pressure vessel and which contains a gas at a pressure below that of the atmosphere. The pressure of the gas in the surrounding enclosure, ammonia, is regulated by the injection of water. The enclosure is formed of concrete, and the pressure vessel comprises inner and outer steel shells, the gap between which is partially occupied with a further intermediate concrete structure. Radio-activity monitoring devices are located in the clearance spaces between the shells and the intermediate concrete and in the ammonia space.
