Abstract
866,049. Nuclear fuel elements. PARSONS & CO. Ltd., C. A. Aug. 13, 1957 [Aug. 13, 1956], No. 24726/56. Class 39(4). In a nuclear reactor in which externally finned nuclear fuel elements 1 of the kind described in Specification 847,214 are located in bores 4 in the reactor core, the axially extending baffles 3 on the elements extend beyond the tips of the fins 2 to a distance such that under operating conditions, expansion brings the outer edges of the baffles into contact with the bore surface. This arrangement is said to inhibit bowing or buckling of the element.
