Abstract

924,045. Moderator structures. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. May 21, 1959 [May 29, 1958], No. 17390/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (4). In a liquid moderated heterogeneous nuclear reactor a moderator vessel is mounted inside the pressure vessel. The moderator is admitted first into the moderator vessel and is therefore at its lowest temperature and highest density in the central and most active zone. On leaving the moderator vessel the liquid merges with the coolant flow through the fuel channels. The moderator vessel is provided with internal baffles to control the liquid flow direction. The baffles may be spiral, radial or set perpendicular to the flow.
