Abstract
1,211,255. Controlling reactors. SIEMENS A.G. 10 Jan., 1968 [11 Jan., 1967], No. 1525/68. Heading G6C. In a steam or liquid metal cooled fast breeder reactor the core is shaped to reduce the probability of a reactivity increase caused by coolant loss, i.e. the coolant void effect. The core shape induces an increase in the neutron leakage at the core centre, where the maximum void effect occurs. The height of the fissile core 1 increases with radial distance from the axis of symmetry. Breeder blankets 3, 4 surround the core 1. The prompt critical value of reactivity is less than the maximum void effect. In an alternative form, the fissile zone may be stepped to provide the reduced central fuel mass.
