Abstract

875,462. Nuclear fuel elements. SOC. RATEAU. Jan. 31, 1958 [Feb. 4, 1957], No. 3327/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(4). In the vertical fuel channels of a nuclear reactor, fuel elements are mounted one upon another and the resultant longitudinal thrust, due to the weight, produces a radial thrust at each element which urges them against the walls of the channels. To produce the radial force, the engaging faces of adjacent elements are inclined to the channel longitudinal axis and the thrust normal to the faces has components parallel and perpendicular to the channel axis.. The inclined surfaces may be either plane or spherical.
