Abstract

1,036,883. Reactor pressure vessels. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Oct. 29, 1962 [Oct. 31, 1961], No. 38995/61. Heading G6C. In a gas-cooled nuclear reactor, in which compensation for thermally produced dimension changes is provided the core and heat exchangers are mounted as a single unit within a spherical pressure vessel. The core and exchanger unit is mounted on supports which pass through apertures in the pressure vessel while the vessel itself has separate supports. Both sets of supports permit a limited free displacement and those passing through the pressure vessel are provided with flexible bellows which seal the aperture. The pressure vessel may be supported on rollers disposed at the external circumference, on vertical rocking columns or from slings secured to an external framework. The coolant circulator is mounted on the pressure vessel.
