Abstract
869,529. Nuclear fuel elements. PARSONS & CO. Ltd., C. A. June 10, 1959 [July 11, 1958], No. 22335/58. Class 39(4). In a fuel element for a gas cooled graphite moderated nuclear reactor, the discs of uranium oxide or carbide 1, are provided with circumferencial grooves 3 a n d stacked in the stainless steel sheath 2. During operation, the sheath expands more than the fuel and is pressed into the grooves by the external cooling gas. Alternatively, the grooves may be longitudinal.
