843,871. Nuclear reactors. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Jan. 26, 1959 [Feb. 17, 1958], No. 5042/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(4). In a gas cooled, graphite moderated nuclear reactor, an emergency shut down control is provided by the admission of a neutron absorbing gas to the coolant stream. Each gas inlet of the pressure vessel is coupled to a high pressure nitrogen, argon or xenon gas supply through a control valve and a frangible diaphragm. A small leak to atmosphere is provided between the valve and diaphragm so that leakage at the valve does not cause rupture of the diaphragm.
