Abstract

836,012. Turbine plant. FOIT, E. June 15, 1956, No. 18604/56. Class 110 (3). A combined steam and gas turbine power plant comprising a steam generator supplying steam to a turbine and a gas turbine comprising a compressor and combustion chamber supplying gas to a gas turbine has one or more heatexchangers separate from and heated by the gases from the combustion chamber in which the steam flowing to or through the turbine is heated and regulating means for varying the heat-exchange in the heat-exchangers for controlling the output of the plant whilst maintaining the load on the steam turbine unchanged. Air from a compressor K is heated by turbine exhaust gases in a heat-exchanger V2 and then supplied to a combustion chamber S1 fed with fuel by a conduit 1. The combustion gases pass through a heat-exchanger V1 to the turbine T1 driving the compressor K1 which exhausts through the heat-exchanger V2 to a second combustion chamber S2 supplying a turbine T2. The exhaust from the turbine T2 heats the feedwater of a steam generator G in a feed-water heater I. The steam from the generator G is supplied to the turbine T which is mounted on the same shaft as the turbine T2 and drives an electric generator E. The steam passing through the turbine T is reheated in the heat exchanger V1. Tappings II, III, IV, V supply bled steam to feed-water heaters. In a modification the steam is superheated before entering the turbine in the heat-exchanger V1 and the reheating of the steam is omitted. In a further modification, only one gas turbine is employed which turbine drives the compressor and a separate external load. In this arrangement the steam is superheated before entering the steam turbine and reheated in the turbine by heat-exchangers arranged in the path of the combustion gases. The steam turbine is operated at constant load and the plant output regulated by varying the temperature of the gases leaving the combustion chamber S1.
