Abstract
583,076. Gas heating furnaces. AKT.-GES. FUR TECHNISCHE STUDIEN. July 14, 1944, No. 13513. Convention date, July 17, 1943. [Class 64 (i)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXVII] In a hot-air or gas-power plant operating on a closed cycle in which the working medium, preferably air, is heated in a heater 1 connected to a gas generator 12 before being expanded in a turbine 4 and after being expanded is compressed in a compressor 6 before being heated again in the heater, the heater has a heating system to which the gases used to heat the working medium are supplied from the heater and the gas used in the heater, the air supplied to the generator and the air supplied for combustion in the heater are heated in the heating system. Air at a temperature of at least 400‹C is supplied through a pipe 13 to the gas generator 12' to produce gas which is burnt in the heater 1. The gas is cooled in a chamber 14 by a jet of water 25 in order to condense any steam or tar-like substances carried over from the generator. The water is removed at 26 and the tar-like substances pass 'through a pipe 27 back to the generator. From the chamber 14 the gas passes through a pipe 15 to a heating system 16, placed after the heat exchanger of the heater in the direction of flow of the flue gases, and then to a burner 18. Air for supplying the generator and the burner enters at 20 and passes through a heat exchanger 21, placed after the heat exchangers 2 and 16 in the direction of flow of the flue gases, to a pipe 22, which branches to supply the generator through pipe 13 and the burner through a pipe 19. By means of valves 23, 24, it is possible to control the proportions of air, entering at 20, which are delivered direct to the generator and burner without passing through the heater 21. This enables the temperature of the air supplies for the generator and burner to be controlled and varied independently. In a modification the cooling chamber 14 is in two parts, in one of which the air supply is heated before the gases are cooled and in the other-of which the hot gases from the generator are employed to heat the gases which have already been cooled to remove steam and tar-like substances. The heat exchangers may be arranged within the coolers for the heating gases. The heater may be connected to. a number of gas generators.
