Abstract

872,276. Locks. PARKES & SONS Ltd., JOSIAH, and BUTTER, F. J. April 6, 1960 [April 24, 1959], No. 13986/59. Class 44. A double ended cylinder having a key-operable plug 12 with associated tumbler locking mechanism and a freely rotatable turn-operable plug 11 with a thrower 14 incorporates means whereby full insertion of the key 22 immediately establishes a positive driving connection between the plugs irrespective of the relative angular dispositions of the plugs when the key is inserted, said connection being broken when the key is removed. The connection is accomplished by the engagement of a swingable blade 25 pivotally held within a diametrical slot 24 at the inner end of the plug 12 and a ring of teeth 20 integral with the thrower and fixedly mounted on the inner end of the plug 11. The inserted key thrusts the blade 25 into engagement with the teeth against a spring-loaded plunger 18.
