1,268,254. An adaptor for spinning reels. BERKLEY & CO., Inc. 8 May, 1969 [9 May, 1968; 1 Nov., 1968; 1 May, 1969], No. 23407/ 69. Heading A1A. An adaptor for a spinning reel 10, having a central shaft 23, enables the line spool to be changed rapidly. The adaptor consists of a flanged portion 38 upon which is mounted a boss 37. The adaptor is attached to the central shaft by flats 46 locking into a shaped hole in plate 42. The line spool slides over dragnut 40 onto the boss 37 and is retained against axial movement by grips 57 made of resilient material. The dragnut 40 compresses a washer 41 held in place by plate 42, in this way a variable drag between the driving means and the spool may be produced. Axial rotation of the spool relative to the adaptor is prevented by 1ug 50 engaging slot 51 (in an alternative embodiment projections in the adaptor flange fit into holes on the spool), by the grip 57, and by key 58 on the spool engaging keyway 59 on the adaptor boss. A spool specially for use with this adaptor is also described. A special sleeve may be fitted on the adaptor boss to enable spools with different internal diameters to be used. A click mechanism is also provided, consisting of a ratchet bearing on wire.
