Abstract
872,216. Rotary valves; working cycles; heating charge. ASPIN ENGINES Ltd., F. M., and ASPIN, F. M. Sept. 17, 1957 [Sept. 17, 1956], No. 28289/56. Classes 7(2), 7(3) and 7(6). A rotary valve in which the valve chamber forms part of the engine combustion space is provided with a cooling space m which covers the upper wall of the valve chamber and forms part of the inlet passage for the engine. Air or fuel-air mixture supplied to the pipe j<SP>2</SP> flows through the space m on to the ribbed upper wall of the valve chamber and then through a port g<SP>2</SP> and a transfer passage f<SP>1</SP> to inlet ports o<SP>1</SP>, o<SP>2</SP>, controlled by the valve inlet port. In Figs. 1 and 4 the ports o<SP>1</SP>, o<SP>2</SP>, supply air and are arranged on either side of a third port o connected to a rich mixture inlet pipe n. The valve port opens port o<SP>1</SP> for scavenging before the exhaust port p is closed and opens the ports o, 02 in succession after the exhaust port p is closed. In a modification the ports o<SP>1</SP>, o<SP>9</SP>, are combined in a single port separate from the port o and in a further modification the pipe n and port o are omitted, the combustible mixture being supplied through the space m. In Fig. 15 the cooling space s of one valve is connected by a transfer passage r to the inlet port of a second cylinder the arrangement being such that the opening of the inlet port of the second cylinder coincides with the combustion period of the first cylinder. Specifications 463,412 and 864,453 are referred to.
