[Classes 7 (ii), 7 (iii), and 7 (vi),] A rotary valve 2, controlling an inlet port 22 and exhaust port 23 at different levels, is fitted internally with a member 1 of large mass screwed at 3 into the cylinder for protecting the valve from the hot gases. Fig. 1 shows a member 1 for heavy oil engines provided with an annular passage 9 open to the cylinder at its lower end and formed with inlet and exhaust ports 12 and 14 respectively at different levels. In the case of explosion engines working with light fuels, the member 1 is formed with a central opening into which enters a projection on the piston, the ports 12 and 14 leading from this central opening. The valve 2 is fitted with packing-rings 16, 17, and with an adjustable ring 19 around the valve for regulating.
