Abstract
862,570. Valve amplifying circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO. Ltd. July 31, 1958 [Nov. 20, 1957], No. 36142/57. Class 40(6) In an amplifying circuit in which a cathodefollower 5 is directly coupled to a preceding amplifier 3 via a standing-bias correcting network comprising a series resistor 8 and a shunt arm, the shunt arm comprises a further valve 14. The grid of the valve 14 is held at a fixed potential by means of a bias potentiometer 24, 25, and it forms one valve of a pair 14, 19 cathode-coupled by resistor 16. The valve 14 is driven from the input terminal 13 via potentiometer 20, 22, amplifier 12 preceding the amplifier 3 providing phase-reversal so that the output from valve 14 augments that from the amplifier 3. The valves 14, 19 are provided with individual cathode feedback resistors 15, 21 respectively. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) in which the amplifier 12 does not provide phase reversal and may be omitted, the grid of the cathodefollower 5 is coupled to the anode of the valve 14, instead of that of the valve 19.
