Abstract
849,244. Valve amplifying circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO. Ltd. Jan. 26, 1959 [March 27, 1958], No. 9909/58. Class 40(6). In a direct-current amplifier of the "chopper" type, in which a vibratory switch 7 alternately connects the input of an A.C. amplifier 10 to an input contact 5 and earthed contact 6, and a second synchronized switch 12 connects the amplifier output either to output contact 14 or to earthed contact 13, the condenser 16 across which the output is obtained is connected to contact 14 via a non-linear resistor 15 of the siliconcarbide type. The arrangement is such as to reduce the ripple in the output, since the resistance of resistor 15 is very high when contact 14 is isolated, so that the leakage current from condenser 16 over the switch contacts is minimized The voltage across condenser 16 is amplified in a D.C. amplifier 17; negative feedback is applied overall by connecting a potentiometer network 3, 4 between the input and output terminals 1, 2 respectively, the input contact 5 of the switch 7 being connected to the tapping point.
