Abstract
968,712. Valve amplifying circuits. MARCONI CO. Ltd. July 6, 1962 [Sept. 6, 19611, No. 31962/61. Heading H3W. In a negative feedback voltage amplifier distortion is reduced by producing a voltage dependent upon departure of the output from a fixed relationship to the input, amplifying the voltage so produced and combining it with the output from the main amplifier. Amplifier 3 is provided with negative feedback by means of series input resistor 1 and resistor 2 between amplifier input and output terminals, and a voltage dependent upon deviation of the output from linear relationship to the input is obtained by means of a potentiometer 4, 5 connected between input and output terminals. The voltage is taken from the tapping point of the potentiometer and amplified by a further phase reversing amplifier 23 which is linearized by means of negative feedback over resistor 22. The amplified and phase reversed voltage is combined with the output of the main amplifier by means of a resistive combining networks 6, 7. The further amplifier may alternatively be of the non-phase reversing type, in which the combining network is of a subtractive nature (Fig. 3, not shown). The arrangement may be taken further, the output voltage so first corrected being compared with the input by means of a second potentiometer and the error voltage so produced amplified in a third amplifier and combined in subtractive sense with the first corrected output (Fig. 4, not shown). Other forms of impedance may be used, e.g. resistors 2, 5 and 22 may be replaced by capacitors.
