Abstract
951,720. Transistor amplifier circuits. BENDIX CORPORATION. Sept. 24, 1962 [Oct. 6, 1961], No. 36287/62. Heading H3T. A variable gain amplifier comprises two common emitter stages, a gain control potentiometer connected to the input circuit and two feed-back paths from the output to the input, one in series with the input circuit and one in shunt. In the Figure, the output of a radio receiver detector is applied through a tone control network 18 and a volume control potentiometer 16 to an amplifier 19, 26. Positive voltage feed-back is applied through a resistor 33 in shunt with the input circuit and negative voltage feed-back is applied through a resistor 34 in series with the input circuit to increase the input impedance as seen by the detector. Variation of the volume control potentiometer varies the positive feed-back from a maximum at the loudest setting to a minimum at the quietest. D.C. stability of the amplifier is increased by means of thermistors 27 and 29. In an alternative circuit (Fig. 4, not shown) coupling between the stages is effected by an auto-transformer and the negative feed-back is applied in series with the input through a feed-back transformer.
