Apparatus for cleaning a sliver-, thread-&c., carrying roller of a textile machine comprises a tubular cleaning-member associated with the roller, and a suction device associated with and arranged behind the cleaning-member considering the direction in which the roller is rotating, the cleaning-member being deformable under the reduced pressure of the suction device so as to press against the associated roller. In Fig. 1, a tubular cleaning member 9 having closed ends and containing air slightly above atmospheric pressure is in contact with a roller 2 of a gill-box while a cleaning belt carried by rollers 4, 5 is in contact with both rollers 2, 1 and co-operates with a stripping-member 7. The ends of the rollers and of the members 7, 9 are carried by end-plates 3,4 to form with a screen 8 a chamber 11 in which fibres are deposited to be withdrawn by a pipe 10, for filtering and recovery. The belt 6 may be replaced by a roller between the member 7 and one or both of the rollers 1, 2, and the chamber 11 may be connected to the atmosphere. As applied to an arrangement of three upper and four lower drafting rollers, Fig. 7 each of the upper rollers has its own suction duct 52, 54 and clearing- member 63, 65, and one duct e.g. 59 and one clearing-member 66 serves a pair of rollers. The application of the invention to one and to two drafting rollers is also described. The clearing- member, Fig. 3, may comprise a frame 15 supporting a layer 16 of foamed rubber covered by cloth 14; the interior may communicate with the atmosphere through the ends of the member or through an aperture 17. The pressure inside the member may be slightly above atmospheric in which case the ends are closed.
