Abstract

919,531. Forming fibre webs. CALLAGHAN & SON Ltd., A. E. June 2, 1959 [March 3, 1958], No. 6753/58. Class 120 (1). Fibres to be formed into a web are blown on to a pair of gas-pervious rotatable rolls, the upper one of which is movable so as to float on the fibrous web as it passes between the rolls. In order partially to counterbalance the weight of the upper roll 7 and thus decrease the pressure of the roll on the web, the rolls are mounted on hollow stub shafts 33, 34 which are connected by calliper arms 35 in turn connected through a spring-loaded device 36 provided with a thumb-nut adjustment 37. Baffle plates 39 mounted within the rolls 6, 7 shroud rear portions of the roll peripheries, the plates being mounted for adjustment by levers 42. Fibrous materials that may be processed include asbestos, leather, paper, wool, flax, cotton, jute, coir, cellulose acetate, rayon and synthetic fibres. These materials may be fed directly to a blower to be carried in a blast of air to the rolls or may be injected into the air blast from a hopper-fed opener or teasing and blending machine. Specification 835,215 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 895,139.
