Abstract

913,080. Preparing fibres for spinning. CARDING SPECIALISTS (CANADA) Ltd. Jan. 5, 1961 [Feb. 5, 1960], No. 4168/60. Class 120(1). In order to prevent an operator's hand being drawn into the nip of a pair of rollers when introducing a fibre web to the rollers and also to support and guide such a web, a bridge plate is mounted between a carding engine doffer and the pair of rollers. In one form, a bridge-plate 1 is pivotable about a rod 6 and maintained in adjusted position by screws 10. Several devices for feeding the web forwardly into the roller nip are described, such as paddle wheel 15, oscillating means for the plate 1, and air jets. If desired, the plate 1 may be swung clear of the web after its initial feeding to the rollers, or the plate 1 may be in two parts, one part being hinged to swing clear of the web. To facilitate guidance of the web, side-plates 13 may be provided integral with, joined to, or associated with the plate 1.
