Abstract

787,086. Apron drafting arrangements. CASABLANCAS HIGH DRAFT CO., Ltd. April 19, 1956 [May 11, 1955] No. 13669/55. Class 120(2) A double-apron drafting apparatus has long apron runs in which two top rollers may be loaded alternatively to accommodate fibres of different lengths. Superposed aprons 11, 12 guided by a cradle 12a and tensor 13a, 13b pass round two pairs of rollers 3, 4, 5, 6 of which the top rollers have necks 3a, 5a of different diameters. A front saddle 14 rests on the neck 1a of the front top roller 1 and also on the neck 3a. With the roller 3 in the position shown, the rollers 3, 4 provide a short fibre drafting nip; by changing the positions of rollers 3, 5, a long fibre drafting nip is provided. A bridging member 18 is pivoted to the saddle 14 either at 16 or 16a according to the fibre length and the member 18 is also pivoted to a rear saddle 15 at 17, 17a or 17b according to the distance separating rear roller pairs 7, 8, 9, 10. According to the fibre lengths and roller spacings, a weighting hook 19 loads the member 18 through one of two hooks 19a, 19b. When the fibre bulk is large and it is desired to reduce the fibre control at the delivery nip, wider tensors may be used or a single arm tensor may guide the bottom apron and the top apron may pass only around the rollers 3, 5. The bottom roller of the second pair is driven at a speed which is preferably greater than the third bottom roller, say about 1 per cent.
