Class 120(2) A double-apron drafting head in which the driving roller and front guide of one apron are relatively adjustable to vary the effective length of the apron has the corresponding members of the other apron adjustable along the line of fibre movement so that the rearmost rollers or guide members of both aprons are maintained in fibre-gripping relationship. It is convenient to vary the effective length of the lower apron by adjusting the position of a bearing block 34 supporting the driving roller 20 over which the apron 17 passes to a guide member 21 and tension roller 22. Adjustments of the block 34 are accompanied by corresponding adjustments of a bearing block 24 in which the upper apron roller 18 is mounted. The guide member 19 for the. upper apron 16 may be carried by a bridge member common to a pair of adjacent aprons and integral with an arm 193 attached to a sleeve 194 carried on the arbor 181 of the roller 18. The rearwardly extending arm 193 terminates in a knifeedge 195 which rests slidably on a ramp 39 carried by a bar 38 that may be adjusted to vary the height of the knife-edge 195 and consequently of the guide member 19. In a modification, the guide member 19 may be replaced by a presser foot arranged for vertical adjustment in the block 24. The guide member 21 for the lower apron may be replaced by an adjustable member 211, Figs. 8 and 9, with which the fibrerelease point of the aprons may be varied. 'The upper rollers 12, 18, 14, Fig. 1, are carried in bearing blocks 23, 24, 25 in a support arm 26 held in operative position by a latch 31, in which position the rollers are loaded by springs 35 adjusted by screws 36. An auxiliary pressure roller 40 may be provided to co-operate with the lower apron at or near to its delivery point.
