Abstract

928,524. Drying apparatus. COOCH & SONS Ltd. March 9, 1961 [Jan. 5, 1960], No. 380/60. Class 34 (2). A machine for drying root vegetables and fruits after cleaning has a drying surface made up of a number of porous, hollow rollers 3 on parallel horizontal axes and connected to a vacuum source whereby moisture is extracted from the surface of the articles which pass over the rollers. The cylinders of the rollers may be of a porous material 18 or may be formed by a fabric cover over a perforated metal cylinder (not shown). The rollers have sprockets 4 by which they are all rotated in one direction on fixed tubular spindles 7. The spindles have inlets 22 and are secured on suction hoses 9 by nuts 8. The roller bearings 16 are sealed and are mounted on collars 15 so as to be airtight. The whole is mounted on a frame 1 with side bars 2 (Fig. 1, not shown). The cylinders can be flushed with water from inside to remove dirt.
