[Also in Group XXXI] Actuation of a clutch 7 in the drive between a tractor power take-off shaft and the road wheels 8 of a trailer is effected by a bevelled, rotatable sleeve 12 in engagement with a thrust bearing 13. The sleeve is provided with a lever 14 which may be operated separately or be coupled to a lever 15 for engagement with a dog 16 on a bevel gear drive .2, 3 whereby the latter may be locked and the clutch used as a brake. In alternative constructions, the sleeve operates a cone clutch or a tapered key inserted between rollers carried by the fixed and displaceable ends of a band embracing a drum on the road wheel..
