Abstract

821,328. Universal joints; shaft couplings. HANOMAG A.G. May 29, 1956, No. 16527/56. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXI] Relates to a tractortrailer combination (see Group XXXI) in which a tractor power take - off shaft 24, Fig. 2, is automatically coupled to a shaft 23 on the trailer. The shaft 23 has a limited telescopic connection with a shaft 24 connected by a universal joint 7 to a member 27 which has a flared portion having recesses 28 adapted to be engaged by dogs 37 carried by the shaft 24. The shaft 23 and the member 27 are kept in alignment by springs 30, 30<SP>1</SP> bearing against a ring 32. In a modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), the shaft 24 has a splined engagement with an internal portion of the member 27, the flared portion of which serves to guide the shaft 24.
