864,477. Slip couplings. DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORPORATION. May 17, 1957 [May 23, 1956], No. 15799/57. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group IX] A coupling in an arrangement whereby drag is imposed on the inner of two rotating coaxial members 200, 256 in textile plying- apparatus, comprises gears 264, 274, Fig. 5, coupled by means of nylon blocks 284 in openings in the former and riding in a recess in the latter: the blocks bear against lips 282 in the openings and are retained by co-operating parts 286, 290. To vary the transmitted torque, the relative positions of the coupling parts can be varied by a nut 267 to create the desired degree of unbalance of the blocks against the lips. In another form, Fig. 9, the parts are coupled together by a plate 368 on the one part urged by a nut 374 into engagement with a gear 366 which through gears 364, 362 is in mesh with a further gear 358 secured to the second part.
