Abstract
853,283. Open-hearth furnaces. INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES DE LA SIDERURGIE, and SOC. GRENOBLOISE D'ETUDES ET D'APPLICATIONS HYDRAULIQUES. April 5, 1957 [April 6, 1956], No. 11111/57. Class 51 (1). In an open-hearth furnace having vertical gas and air uptakes 1, 4a, 4b, Fig. 2, each air uptake 4a, 4b has an upwardly directed air-jet pipe 5a, 5b which is operated when necessary to direct and stabilize the flame from the burner duct 2. In another furnace, the uptakes 4a, 4b, Fig. 4, are replaced by a single one extending the width of the furnace with the air-jet pipes 5a, 5b located in the uptake adjacent the furnace side walls. The gas and air ports 2, 7, Figs. 5, 6, in a further embodiment, are superposed, the pipes 5a, 5b being looated in the air port.
