Abstract

565,306. Open - - hearth furnaces. ELECTROFLO METERS CO., Ltd., and STONE, C. H. May 3, 1943, No. 6944. [Class 51 (i)] The roof of an open-hearth furnace is formed with a centrally disposed aperture 4 through which a flame is directed vertically downward on to the bath of metal, the air and fuel being supplied to the aperture by conduits 6, 5 respectively arranged above the roof and supported on girders 15 independently thereof. The flames and gases are withdrawn from the ends of the furnace through ports which may be arranged at the sides of the vertical air passage 8 and may pass to recuperators.
