Abstract
820,057. Cupola furnaces. GUILLAMON, J. B. May 28, 1956 [June 1, 1955], No. 16457/56. Class 51 (2). A cupola furnace 1 connected to a forehearth 2 by a conduit leading from the hearth 18, comprises a shoot 21 leading from the forehearth 2 to a trap 3 in a slag-quenching tank 4 with a water-cooled exhaust pipe 5 leading from the top of the shoot, a baffle plate 27 preventing admixture of steam in the tank 4 with the combustion gases, a motor-controlled valve 8 controlling the supply of air to the furnace through bustle pipe 10<SP>1</SP> and tuyeres 17, and a motor-controlled valve 14 in the exhaust pipe. The level of water in the quenching tank 4 is controlled by a sliding plate 31, water being supplied at 33 and exhausted at 37. The trap 3 is also water-cooled. Control by the valves 8 and 14 enable the air passing up the furnace to be kept constant.
