947,178. Cupola furnaces. STRICO GESELLSCHAFT FUR METALLURGIE UND WARMETECHNIK. April 21, 1960, No. 14017/60. Heading F4B. A cupola furnace 1 has a passage 3 through which molten material and gases pass to a forehearth 2 having a valve controlled connection 4 to the combustion chamber 5 of a blast heater 6 and discharging molten iron and slag into a siphon device 8 from which separated iron may flow continuously. The valve controlled tuyeres 10 are supplied from a bustle pipe 9 and may be disposed in rows at several levels. Alternatively, each row of tuyeres may have its own bustle pipe. A gas offtake 12 controlled by valve 13 leads to the combustion chamber 5 which has air inlets 7. The siphon device may be duplicated, in which case the slag tapping channel may be duplicated with a single iron tapping channel. Alternately operated slag tapping channels may also be provided.
