Abstract
589,101. Furnaces. ASHMORE, BENSON, PEASE & CO., Ltd., RAMBUSH, N. E., and ATKINSON, W. Feb. 23, 1945, No. 4541. [Class 51 (ii)] A foundry cupola or like furnace in which air blast to the tuyeres is led through a chamber surrounding said cupola and situated above but adjacent to said tuyeres is characterised by the feature that the chamber is bounded on its outer side by metal plates and on its inner side by a refractory lining of less thickness than the remaining refractory lining of the cupola, this thin refractory lining being cooled by the air blast. Blast air from an inlet f passes through a distributing channel g, through holes h<1> into an annular steel jacket i which backs a thin highly refractive lining d. The air passes out through a collection main j through tuyeres e and into the furnace.
