791,586. Shaft furnaces. LUBATTI, E. Sept. 3, 1956 [Sept. 21, 1955], No. 26838/56. Class 51 (2). A reducing furnace for fine ferrous &c. ores comprises a trough 1, Figs. 1, 3, having a hearth 10 and a trapezoidal chamber 2 having tuyere 7 connected to air mains 9, charging hoppers 4 and an exhaust main 6 for waste gases. The mixed fuel and ore are charged into the furnace to a depth of from 21 to 45 inches. Molten metal and slag are tapped off from the trough. The furnace is cooled by liquid circulating through or sprayed on the outside of the walls. In a modification, the tuyeres are replaced by flat-sectioned tubes.
