402,743. Rotary furnaces. KRUPP GRUSONWERK AKT.-GES., F., Buckau, Magdeburg, Germany. May 24, 1932, No. 14727. Convention date, June 5, 1931. [Class 51 (ii).] In the working of spongy iron into blooms in a rotary furnace, the material is fed by a hopper 2 into one end of the furnace which is provided at its discharge end with a burner 3. The discharge end is reduced by a baffle ring 4 leaving an opening 5 through which oxidising gases or air or both are introduced so that the charge is subjected during rotation alternately to oxidising and reducing conditions. In a modification, Fig. 3, the oxidising gases &c. are introduced through nozzles 10 connected to an annular chamber 11.
