Abstract
1,169,939. Rotary furnaces. GEB GIULINI G.m.b.H. 14 Dec., 1966 [18 Dec., 1965], No. 56071/66. Heading F4B. A rotary furnace for production of iron sponge by reducing ore with a carbonaceous solid, has a combustion chamber 4 fired by an end burner 8, a baffle ring 3, and spaced air nozzles 11 and 12 with cranked ends turned upstream axially of the furnace. The nozzles are supplied with air from fans 13 and 14 and with steam from pipe 15. A discharge aperture 5 immediately above the dam 3 is provided with a valve 6 opened by the weight of sponge pressing on it. In operation, combustion gases leave the chamber 4 containing about 3% by weight of O 2 or less and flue gases may be substituted for the steam.
