Class 51 (2) A rotary furnace comprises a pre-heating chamber I rotatable about a horizontal axis and having a sectional bore, the longitudinal axes of symmetry of the sections being alternatively inclined to one side and the other of the axis of rotation whereby rotation of the chamber serves to feed material from one end thereof to the other, a stationary chamber 24 into one side of which the outlet end of the chamber 1 engages, a rotary firing chamber 27 the inlet end of which is engaged in the opposite side of the stationary chamber, a chute 42 in the stationary chamber leading from the outlet end of the pre-heating chamber 1 to the inlet end of the firing chamber 27, and a burner 44 in the firing chamber, hot gases passing from the firing chamber through the chambers 24 and 1.
