Abstract
591,117. Cupola furnaces. MIDLAND MOTOR CYLINDER CO., Ltd., and WOOLLEY, F. A. Feb. 23, 1945, No. 4597. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group II] A cupola furnace has supplementary heating means not involving the introduction of further air, for a space beneath the combustion zone adapted to hbld coke and to receive molten material from the combustion zone. In a furnace with a combustion zone 10 and tuyeres 11 the contents of the well are heated by carbon electrodes 16 which project through the well lining. This additional heating causes the reduction of silicon from the slag and its absorption by the molten iron, titanium, boron, manganese, chromium and vanadium may also be incorporated in the charge for subsequent reduction and incorporation in the metal collecting in the well.
