Abstract
301,011. Lambot, M. Nov. 23, 1927, [Convention date]. Drawings to Specification. Rotary furnaces; open hearth furnaces.- In a process for reducing iron and other ores, the ores mixed with a solid reducing agent such as coal are fed through a heated rotary cylinder from which the reduced ore together with the unreduced coal is passed into another chamber in which the metal is carbonized to the required degree. The carbonized metal is then parsed into a furnace where it is fused and the impurities separated from it in the form of slag which is removed. The gases from the fusion furnace may be used wholly or in part for the heating of the reduction furnace and the gases from the reducing furnace may be used in the fusion furnace after purification and the recovery of the by-products or they may be used for other purposes. The gases from the process may also be used for the preliminary heating or roasting of the ores. Charging is effected by a pair of hoppers delivering to a single hopper at the hopper end of the rotary cylinder.
