A cyclone furnace 1 has a gas outlet 9 to a secondary furnace chamber 10 and the cyclone furnace chamber and the secondary furnace chamber have individual slag outlets 13, 17, leading to a common slag chamber 14. The slag outlets 13, 17 are of sufficient size to permit gases to flow through the outlet 13, slag chamber 14 and outlet 17 into the secondary chamber 10.
