Abstract

848,309. Hooks. BLACKBURN GROUP Ltd., and CRAWSHAW, A. H. Feb. 16, 1959, No. 5312/59. Class 89(2). In a release-hook in which separation of the members is effected by relaxation of the tension between the joined-members, the jaws A, A<1> together form, when closed, a circular-aperture at one end for gripping the member to be fastened, and have curved-extensions A<2> at the other end. They are pivotally-mounted on a body-member consisting of two flat U-shapedplates L bolted to a further U-shaped-member G. Mounted between the plates L is a spindle E carrying an eye-member F at one end, and having two distance-pieces B, C and a fixed stop-piece D at the other, the arrangement being such that the piece C is free to slide along the spindle between the members B, D, which are fixed thereto. Between the stop-piece D and the bodymember G is a compression-spring K and a washer H. With the jaws in the open-position as in Fig. 4, the member to be gripped is fed into the aperture between the jaws, which are then squeezed-together by hand, moving the extensions A<2> apart and allowing the spring to move pieces B, C, D, to the position shown in Fig. 1, with the extensions gripping reduced portion C<1> of the piece C. As a load is applied to the member F, the spring K is compressed and members D, B, move until the portion C<1> is displaced from between the extensions A<2> and replaced by member B, as shown in Fig. 3. The member B is of less width than the portion C<1> of the member C, to allow easy entry between the extensions. Further increases in load have no effect on the fastener, but reduction to a figure below that exerted by the spring, will allow the spring to expand and disengage the jaws.
