780,536. Rope-pulley devices. HORNGREN, L. G. June 6, 1955 [June 9, 1954; Dec. 14, 1954], No. 16238/55. Class 78 (2). A rope-pulling device comprises a handle 15 operating shaft 14, said shaft being mounted in framework 10 and carrying opposed cranks 16, 17 respectively linked to jaws 25, 26 and 38, 39, which jaws are of the parallel-ruler type mounted on parallel straps 23, 28 and 40, 41 pivoted respectively on movable carriages 12, 13 whereby reciprocation of the handle 15 causes the rope to be pulled by successive steps through the jaws to convey a load at the end of the rope. Movement of handle 15 to the right from the position shown does two functions. It causes pivoting of the parallel straps on both carriages so that jaws 38, 39 grip the rope and so that jaws 25, 26 release the rope, and then it causes carriages 12, 13 to move towards each other so that the rope is pulled from right to left by jaws 38, 39. Subsequent movement of handle 15 to the left causes the carriages to move away from each other and jaws 25, 26 to grip and pull the rope to the left, the rope sliding through the open jaws 38, 39. The other handle 54 is used similarly .to pull the rope from left to right.
