Classes 123(2) and 123(3) The heat exchanger described in the parent Specification is improved in that both the inner tube 1 and the intermediate fluid carrying tube 4, 4<SP>1</SP> can expand -or contract independently within the outer envelope 5. The straight portions 4, 4<SP>1</SP> of the intermediate fluid carrying tube are connected by plates 8, 9 to a curved header 10 disposed within the return bend 14 of the outer envelope but not connected thereto so that movement can occur therebetween. The inner tube 1 passes coaxially through the tubes 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, its return bend being disposed within the larger diameter header 10 within which is can freely expand and contract.
