Abstract

997,757. Tube type heat exchangers. SUPERHEATER CO. Ltd. July 14, 1961 [April 14, 1960], No. 13479/60. Heading F4S. A shell and tube heat exchanger comprises an elongated shell 13 having a fluid inlet and outlet and containing groups of single-loop or multiple-loop tubes 8, the two ends of each group being connected respectively to inlet and outlet sub-headers 5, 5<SP>1</SP> and these being joined to inlet and outlet main headers 3, 3<SP>1</SP> by stub tubes 4, the arrangement being such that the tube assembly can be withdrawn from the shell through one end thereof whereupon any tube group may be separated from the remainder by cutting through the appropriate stub tubes 4. The main headers shown are secured by their inlet and outlet pipes 1, 1<SP>1</SP> to a detachable cover 23. Baffles 10 direct heating steam from an inlet 25 in cross flow over the tubes and condensate from the steam is removed through a drain 26. The inlet and outlet main headers may be located at the same end (as shown) or at opposite ends of the shell (Fig. 5, not shown).
