Abstract

1297941 Tubular heat exchangers COVRAD Ltd 25 Feb 1970 [28 Feb 1969] 10979/69 Heading F4S A heat exchanger comprises a cylindrical casing 11 made of metal sheet under 0À25 inch thick, a pair of tube plates 12 inset from the ends of the casing, tubes 13 extending between the tube plates, end closure means 16 at one end at least of the casing and defining with the adjacent tube plate a header or headers 17. As shown, one of the headers is divided by a partition 20 into inlet and outlet header chambers 21, 22, the other header being fitted with a drain plug 25. Alternatively the two headers may comprise respectively an inlet and an outlet header (Fig. 1). Baffles 14 provide a tortuous path for the fluid flowing over the tubes. Annular protrusions 23 from the casing wall permit relative expansion between the tubes and the casing. Tie rods (24, Fig. 2) may extend between the tube plates and provide support for the baffles 14.
