Abstract

851,492. Tubular heat exchangers. SUPERHEATER CO. Ltd. Dec. 4, 1958 [Sept. 11, 1957], No. 28706/57. Class 64(3) In a heat exchanger in which a plurality of tubes contained in a shell extend through through a tube plate 6 to headers located externally of the shell, each tube 1 at the point where it passes through the tube plate is provided with a sleeve 10 secured at both ends to' the tube by seal welds 11, 13 and to the tube plate 6 at the sleeve end external to the shell, by a circular seal weld. 12. In the form shown, the sleeve is provided with a recess 15 into which any leakage fluid arising from a fault in the tube joint will pass. and be detected by the provision of a tell-tale aperture 17 located outside the heat exchanger shell. The surfaces of the holes provided in the tube plate to receive the tubes may be formed with sealing grooves (Fig. 2, not shown).
