Abstract
A high-pressure heat exchanger of the tube-within-a-tube type, where one fluid circulates inside the inner tube and the other in the annulus between the tubes, has the tube ends connected to a double set of heaters, the inner tubes passing through one header to reach the second header, while the outer tubes open into the first header. The headers are of massive metal construction, straight or annular in shape and relatively slim. The tube connections into the headers are regularly spaced. The headers are pref. constructed from massive metal blocks welded together, e.g. two pairs of blocks to form two separate headers of a double header system or three blocks all welded together to form a double header unit. The advantages of the arrangement are lightness and compactness.
